Back in 2008 Charles Bieler (Three Thieves, Bieler Père Et Fils) had a dream to make world-class rosé in Washington State and called his good friend, Charles Smith Smith (K Vintners, Charles Smith Wines, Kung Fu Girl Riesling). From here, the Charles & Charles legacy was born.
The name ‘Charles’ is quite rare in America – it’s usually shortened to Charlie, Chuck or Chaz. So when Charles met Charles they both commented it was unusual to find two ‘Charles’ so commemorated the brand with their names.
The two Charles source the highest quality grapes from their strong grower relationships throughout Washington State, crafting and bottling the wines in the Columbia Valley. Charles & Charles has always been about two guys turning Washington’s old-school dirt and New World fruit into a true original.
Washington has a magical balance of heat and continentality that provides a contrast of ripeness with preserved acidity. The cool nights keep the wines of Washington fragrant and fresh.
“When I decided to try my hand at winemaking in Washington State, I knew exactly who to enlist: renowned winemaker Charles Smith. We launched our joint venture with a Washington-grown rosé, inspired by my Provençal roots, ultimately kick-starting the American rosé movement. We’ve been at it for over a decade now, crafting wines that still honor the terroir of Columbia Valley.”
